Lucky find for Scoil Iosaef Naofa
Pupils
Fieldtrip to Glounthaune
Pupils from Scoil Iosaef Naofa went on the above fieldtrip
on the 25th March. We set off on the train with our teacher, Mr. McSweeney
and were also accompanied by Ms. Scriven. When we got to Glounthaune
we met local birdwatcher, Paul Moore. Paul was a great help as he identified
lots of the wading birds. We saw over 300 Black tailed Godwits, Curlew,Ringed
Plover, Knots, Redshank, Oystercatchers and Dunlin. Other birds seen
were Jackdaws, Hooded Crows, Black Headed Gulls, Teal and a Grey Heron.
We also saw 5 buzzards which Paul told us is very unusual! There was
great excitement when we saw a ringed Black tailed Godwit! It's ring
combination was Red Yellow, Yellow White. We got the train back to Cobh
again and were back in school before it got too wet.
Many thanks to Paul Moore, Chariman
of the Cork Branch of BirdWatch Ireland for all his help.
